Internship / Working Student - Robotics Stack on PLC / IPC (all genders)
About Us
Born from the labs of ETH Zurich in 2024, Duatic is for the restless and the brilliant who are ready to engineer the workforce of tomorrow. We are pioneering human-scale, dual-arm robotics by merging groundbreaking hardware with intelligent software - creating systems that don't just automate, but truly collaborate to solve global labor shortages. As a young, high-velocity startup, we trade bureaucracy for pure ownership. We are looking for ambitious engineers and PhDs eager to bridge the gap between leading-edge science and real-world impact. If you are ready to leave the safe path and build technology that defines a generation, join us at the ground floor.
Role Overview
You will evaluate industrial control hardware for our robots, get our ROS 2 stack running on it, and explore what the manufacturer's PLC ecosystem makes possible, including on the functional safety side. You will work directly with our low-level and safety engineers, and we will prioritise the scope with you rather than expecting all of it at once.
What you will work on in detail:
- Compare PLC / IPC platforms from several manufacturers against our requirements
- Assess each option in the context of functional safety, including the safety-relevant software and certified components each manufacturer offers, as a pre-study that feeds into our engineering decisions
- Bring up our existing ROS 2 stack on the selected hardware and document what runs, what breaks, and what it takes to fix
- Work hands-on with the manufacturer's PLC toolchain and runtime to map out what is actually possible, and write up recommendations the engineering team can act on
Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in electrical engineering, mechatronics, computer science, automation, or a related field
- Familiarity with Linux and at least one of: ROS 2, C/C++, Python
- Interest in industrial automation, real-time systems, or functional safety
- Comfortable working independently once pointed in the right direction, and honest about what you find
- Working language is English. German is a plus, not a requirement
- Existing permission to work in Germany for the full duration
Benefits & Culture
